In this episode, we look at Godzilla 2000, Toho’s triumphant return to the King of the Monsters after the divisive 1998 American version. This film reestablishes Godzilla as a force of nature, taking on the mysterious alien Orga in a visually striking, city-smashing battle. With a sleeker design and updated effects, Godzilla 2000 sets the tone for the Millennium era. Then we shift gears to The Mighty Kong (1998), an animated musical retelling of the 1933 classic aimed at a younger audience. While it softens the story’s darker elements, it still brings the legend of Skull Island and the iconic Empire State Building climax to a new generation. Two very different films—one fierce, one family-friendly—each keeping their monster myths alive in the late ’90s.
